The Englishman's situation becomes more and more uncomfortable as the races go on. Everything started well this year with a seventh place in Qatar then an eighth in Argentina. But he never entered the top 10 again. At a time when his contract for 2018 was being renegotiated, he had just finished twentieth and penultimate in the German Grand Prix.
Paolo Campinoti, the owner of the Pramac team, had declared that he only wanted to deal with Redding's contract when that of Danilo Petrucci would be finalized and signed. It's now done and the Briton's turn has come. There are fewer and fewer bikes available in the niche halfway between factory riders and paid riders.
This weekend, Scott finished fifteenth in free practice, then thirteenth and penultimate in Q1, with only Tito Rabat behind him. He therefore started from the middle of the eighth and last row, just behind Karel Abraham and between alex rins to his left and Rabat to his right.
Starting from that far away seemed "mission impossible", but yet Redding made a great start, which earned him seventeenth place ahead of Johann Zarco on the first lap. Zarco went from eighteenth to ninth final position. Redding from seventeenth to twentieth, crossing the checkered flag more than a minute behind winner Marc Marquez, and with 3 hundredths ahead of the last Alex Rins.
For Scott Redding, according to the official version of the Pramac Racing team “ It's the worst race of my career. I'm not able to understand what happened because the sensations were positive during the warm up. Unfortunately, I didn't find the right feeling to be competitive. It was a very hard Sunday for me. I want to go to Brno to do an important race and give my best. »
In a more personal way, aimed primarily at fans, Redding explained that
“If I told you that I was going on summer break happy, I would be lying to you. I try my best every time I ride the bike and most of the time this year it hasn't been easy for me... By far... But I'm going to come home to recharge a little and then go back at work.
“I know I can do better than that. I am always very open and very honest with the media and my fans. I almost cried today doing interviews because I run with my heart. We will come back strong, trust me. »
