Born in 1974 in Motto di Livenza (a predestined name) near Treviso, Gino Borsoi completed eight seasons in GP 125, with a second place at Mugello in 2001 and two third places as his best results in 125 Grands Prix. He achieved pole position at Assen in 2001, finishing sixth in the 125 Championship in 2001 on an Aprilia from the LAE – UGT 3000 team.

After his career as a driver ended, he remained in the paddocks as the right-hand man of Aspar Martinez, with whom he rode in 2017 Karel Abraham et Alvaro Bautista in MotoGP, as well asAlbert Arenas and Lorenzo Dalla Porta, but also Raul Fernandez (in Jerez) in Moto3 on Mahindra.

For 2018, while Andrea Migno and Albert Arenas will defend the team's colors on KTMs in Moto3, Alvaro Bautista will have a Ducati Desmosedici GP17 ex-Andrea Dovizioso, and Karel Abraham a GP16.

“We inherit the GP17 from Andrea Dovizioso, so we have a bike that already has a good base while the official teams are starting a completely new project, believes Borsoi. That being said, the factory team had raised the bar quite quickly in 2017… But this bike remains an obvious advantage. It worked wonderfully last season to the point of fighting for the title. »

What are your goals for this season?

“Difficult to give a position in the ranking. Being in the Top 5 in a race is already a superb result for an independent team. But after all, why not ? Some satellite teams did achieve podiums in 2017. This is an option that cannot be ruled out, especially when you have a good bike and good riders. I believe that the tests in Malaysia and Thailand will allow us to know exactly where we stand. »

This year the team was named after Angel Nieto.

“Yes, our team bears the name of Ángel Nieto and it is a real honor, an additional asset for everyone, which should encourage us to work even harder. For many years, Ángel has been a reference for all of us. So we have to live up to him, and win if we can. »

What is your overall view of your team's 2017 season?

“Last year was interesting, especially the first half of the season, since we were often fighting up front. Álvaro had some good results there, but afterwards we had some problems, which prevented us from taking full advantage of the bike. »

“With Karel, it was a bit the opposite. With the exception of the Argentine GP where he took second place in qualifying, he started slowly and then gained momentum at the end. It didn't necessarily show, but he was much closer to the best, especially in qualifying. So overall, I think it's been a good year for the team. »
