At the end of the Austrian Grand Prix, Lorenzo Dalla Porta (Honda) and Arón Canet (KTM) occupied the first two places in the provisional ranking of the World Championship with only one small point difference between the two men. Then the Italian at Silverstone took a 14-point advantage over the Spaniard (hit during the first lap by Albert Arenas), which allowed him to arrive at Misano in front of the fans with a real lead over his opponent.

The first reference lap was to the credit of Romano Fenati with a time of 1'43.988. He preceded Arón Canet, in 1'44.542. The first to fall was Can Öncü in Turn 2. His team (Ajo) took him to the medical headquarters for verification out of caution. It was then the turn of wildcard driver Meikon Kawakami, without major damage.

Midway through the session, Toba was still leading, 0.1 ahead of Suzuki and Masiá, 0.2 ahead of Migno, Arbolino, Dalla Porta and McPhee, and 0.3 ahead of Canet, Fenati and Arenas. Gabriel Rodrigo, returning from injury after his classified collarbone, climbed into eighth position, 0.2 behind leader Toba.
