Announced as the big favorite on the German track, the Honda Repsol driver ultimately did not dominate as much as expected and had to settle for sixth place in the day's combined times.

All the statistics of the last eight years announced Marc Márquez as the dominator of the Sachsenring, a Grand Prix he has won every year since 2010. However, he had announced not wanting to arrive being too confident because he knew that anything could happen and that from one year to the next he had to be wary of the results of others.

The Spanish driver did well to display this state of mind because, indeed, the others have come very close and are not going to make his task easy. Although he finished second in FP1 just under four tenths behind Andrea Iannone, this afternoon, on the other hand, he had to settle for fifth place, still four tenths behind first.

Nothing to worry about since it's only the first day and Márquez always has more than one trick up his sleeve. He himself was rather calm at the end of this Friday: “It was a good first day, even if our opponents are all closer compared to last year. The weekend will be completely dry, so the results could once again be very close. Anyway, we started well and were able to have a good pace, both on the soft tire in the morning and the hard this afternoon, which is positive. Tomorrow we're going to try some things and progress a bit on the settings, because I'm not yet able to slide the bike the way I want. I want to find a way to do it because it's important on this track. The grip is not exceptional and the tire wear seems quite high, so we will have to manage this aspect as best as possible. »
