The Suzuki driver had the second day he hoped for and all the lights are green in order to have a good race tomorrow.
During the first day of free practice yesterday, Andrea Iannone had encountered difficulties with braking and grip, which prevented him from finishing at the front. Despite everything, he finished tenth in FP1 then fifth in FP2, and was optimistic for this Saturday, provided he found solutions to his problems.
Even though he still had some grip problems, that didn't stop him from racing at the front today. After taking fourth place in FP3, he was guaranteed to progress to Q2. He therefore took advantage of FP4 to prepare his machine for qualifying, and actually finished second in the session. Well on his way to securing the front row in Q2, he was unfortunately hampered in his last flying lap and had to settle for fifth position.
Despite everything, the Italian driver achieved his best qualifying since Barcelona, and finally sees a possibility of finishing in the top 5, which has not happened to him for seven races: “It was a positive day, although I think I had the chance to get a place on the front row. I lost a lot of time on my last lap when Márquez rejoined the track and made a mistake. But in any case, this kind of thing can happen and it's normal. We worked well this weekend, the bike had good basic settings and we then progressed session after session. We need to get a little more grip with the rear, but whatever happens I'm going to give my best tomorrow. »
