This Aragon Grand Prix is a nightmare for Yamaha riders. Never at the forefront, and on the contrary far in the ranking, they did not manage to rectify the situation in qualifying. The free practice sessions set the tone, and it was difficult to see how the official drivers were going to be able to race at the front, even if anything can always happen.
After finishing eleventh in FP3 this morning, Maverick Vinales then placed sixth in FP4. Fortunately, he managed to qualify from Q1 to Q2 by setting the fastest time, but he failed to improve his performance significantly and had to settle for eleventh place. However, fate took its toll, and after being found responsible for driving too slowly in the path of Bradley Smith, he received three penalty places on the grid, which will make him start in fourteenth position.
The race therefore promises to be complicated for the Spanish driver, but he continues to try to remain optimistic: “Our qualifying result today clearly does not show our potential. I feel like I could have done a little better because I had some problems with the electronics in Q2. We must continue to work, we still have time. We need to stay motivated and then we will see if we can do a little better tomorrow. The rules are the rules, and I think I was well on Bradley's trajectory during his flying lap, so it's normal that it happened that way. »
