The Tech 3 driver had a good first day on the Australian circuit and hopes to make further progress for tomorrow's qualifying.
Johann zarco never really achieved great results at Phillip Island, apart from a podium when he was in 125cc. Never until last year, when he fought in the leading group and was on the provisional podium for a large part of the race before finally finishing fourth, only a few thousandths from the grail.
Motivated to ensure that this scenario happens again this year, he put all the chances on his side by starting his weekend off well. First eighth in FP1, seven tenths behind first, he improved his time by 0.972 seconds in FP2, which made him finish in sixth position, five tenths from first place.
This positive Friday bodes well for the rest of the weekend, but the French driver is aware that he will have to make further progress to hope to jostle in front: “The day went pretty well. We had not too bad conditions. The Phillip Island track is just incredible and I'm glad I got into the rhythm quickly. Despite this, it's difficult to progress with each lap and find the right settings to feel very comfortable on the bike. Some drivers are very fast. I feel like I can't get the same speed as them, but we're trying to work on the machine to find the confidence we need. The bike itself gives me that confidence, but we are still missing something in acceleration, and that is very important on this track. For now, I'm happy. I hope to be able to progress tomorrow in the dry in order to be competitive for the race. »
