The Suzuki driver has had a rather satisfactory weekend so far, including a very good qualifying session which could allow him to compete for the podium tomorrow.
Building on his podium in Japan last weekend, Alex Rins arrived very motivated on the legendary Phillip Island circuit. On the timesheet, he finished a little far back in FP1, with fifteenth place, before getting a little closer in FP2 by taking ninth position, but he mainly focused on the tire test. Satisfied with his feelings at the end of this first day, he improved a little this Saturday.
First thirteenth in FP3, he automatically qualified for Q2 before finishing seventh in FP4. After a good qualification, he will start from fifth place on the grid tomorrow, and can probably hope to have a very good race, or even a podium finish.
Even though he is aware that the results will be very close, he is determined to finish well this weekend: “Qualifying went pretty well and we achieved our goal which was the second row. It was very difficult on the track, there was rain and a lot of uncertainty, which made it a bit risky. I tried to do the best I could, attacking as much as I could and turning alone. So I'm happy with this fifth place. The GSX-RR works really well here, so we'll try to stay in the front group, but I think there will be a lot of us riding there. Either way, we'll give it a try! »
