What a weekend for the Tech 3 pilot! Both the author of good results and falls, he leaves with a mixed record, but clear progress despite everything.

Hafiz Syahrin experienced a somewhat unusual Australian Grand Prix. On the one hand, he achieved good results, and on the other, he also made mistakes.

His free practice sessions went pretty well. Twelfth in FP1 then eleventh in FP2, he managed to automatically qualify for Q2 for the very first time, despite a big fall in FP3 which left him with bruises and severe pain in one finger. Despite this, he managed to get the eighth fastest time in FP4, and above all to achieve the best qualification of his career in MotoGP by taking tenth place.

Forgetting the pain, the Malaysian driver was extremely motivated to come back with his best race result of the year. Despite an average start which saw him drop to thirteenth position, he rose like a cannonball to eighth place which he held for a large part of the race. He was therefore on the verge of achieving his objective and taking important points from Franco Morbidelli for the Rookie Championship when he unfortunately crashed, eight laps from the end.

After such a good weekend, a blank result inevitably leaves a bitter taste, but the main thing is that Syahrin is not injured and is on the contrary determined to make up for it next weekend at home in Malaysia. In addition, there remains a rookie who will learn from his mistake: “Until the nineteenth lap, I had a good race. I just lost the front because I was trying to get back on Miller. In the straight it's impossible because the Ducati passes very easily. My team and I are working very hard on our package, which is a little different from the rest of the Yamahas. I was fighting with the leading group, but it was technically impossible to stay with them, so I attacked very hard. It's a shame to have crashed on lap 19. Regardless, we will continue to work hard and believe in ourselves because we are working very hard to be strong in the race. We tried to use our speed to get a good result, but in the end we didn't have the chance to fight with the rest of the drivers in front. »
