The Catalan Grand Prix scheduled for this weekend will have a special flavor for a Alex Marquez able to take power in the race for the Moto2 title. Coming off two consecutive victories, the brother of whom you know seems to have regained all his splendor until coming back to within two points of a Lorenzo Baldassarri with slowed momentum. His three successes in six races no longer weigh heavily against the Marc VDS driver who arrives in front of his home crowd and on a track that he has already dominated on two occasions in his career.
It was in 2017 in a Moto2 category then powered by the 600 Honda and in 2014, the year of his Moto3 title. During this time, Baldassarri has never been on the podium in Montmeló. Only fourth in the last contest which took place on his Mugello track, the resident of the FlexBox Pons HP40 team still holds control of the general classification but appears to be a weakened leader.
The duel promises to be close and it will be watched closely by the experienced Tom Luthi lying in ambush in third place. The Swiss is only four points behind the Italian. The outsider will be fourth in the provisional hierarchy after six Grands Prix, i.e. Jorge Navarro. Seventh in Italy, he also arrives on his land and on the handlebars of a Speed Up that Fabio Quartararo brought success last year. The same NAVARRO also signed the very first success of his career in 2016 in Barcelona.
Among the other protagonists, we will focus on Marcel Schrötter, fifth in the championship with a liability of 24 points and who continues to recover from a foot injury. We will also observe Luca marini, on the podium in Italy with a changed Kalex chassis. Finally, we are waiting for a reaction from the KTM clan which is experiencing a start to the campaign placed under the seal of a failed motorcycle.
