The Suzuki rider arrived at the Barcelona Grand Prix very motivated by the idea of achieving a good result at home, for his home race. Unfortunately the weekend was more complicated than expected.

Alex Rins had a difficult Catalan Grand Prix, and never managed to be at the front. First seventeenth in FP1, he then finished sixteenth in FP2 and twentieth in FP3. Not automatically qualified for Q2, he achieved better FP4 without really being close to the leading men since he finished fourteenth just over a second behind.

During Q1, he failed to progress to Q2 and had to settle for fifteenth place on the grid. He regained the same place during the Warm Up on Sunday morning, and therefore knew that the race was going to be complicated.

The Spaniard got off to a good start and was able to recover positions in the first laps, but very quickly his bike behaved strangely, and he finally had to retire due to a technical problem: “The race was difficult from the start. Then from the fifth lap I started to feel something wrong on the bike, and it got worse so I decided to pit on the ninth lap, and it seemed to be an electrical problem. »

Not counting this problem, he has never managed to be fast on this circuit which he knows very well: “It was a weird weekend, because on Friday and Saturday the race pace was good, but I was missing something when I was trying to do a fast lap. »

This retirement is in addition to the three falls he has recorded since the start of the season. His four clean results are, however, offset by his podium in Argentina, his top 10 at Le Mans and his top 5 at Mugello, enough to remain optimistic: “We take the positive, and reflect on the negative in order to know how to change and progress. I would like to return to the front in Assen and I hope to have a good weekend there. »
