While the start of the race has continued to be delayed since 12:30 p.m. due to poor track conditions, the drivers wait, more or less nervous in their box to find out whether or not they will ride today. Many criticisms are raining down on those responsible for the circuit, starting with the top MotoGP riders. Yesterday, in fact, Marc Márquez did not hide his discontent, as explained Motorcycling.

At the end of the second day on the Silverstone circuit, Marc Márquez was, like the other drivers, unhappy with the new asphalt whose conditions worsened in the rain: “Those who redid the asphalt did not do their job correctly because, firstly, there are more bumps than last year and, secondly, we saw that when it rains it does not drain. I'm not an expert but we see on other circuits that normally the water must evacuate from the sides, and there it remains in the middle. On top of that, the bumps accentuate the fact that the water stays in places where it causes aquaplaning, where you least expect it. This makes the route difficult to understand because you arrive thinking it's dry and you discover that there is a lot of water, or you ride in the wet, you arrive and you see that many riders have fallen. If the job is not done well, the asphalt must be redone. We can't come here and find that if it rains we can't run, that if the bumps persist they cause strange falls. »

Regarding the race, Márquez has no plans to not race, but the conditions could cause the race to be canceled: “I come with the idea of racing, as always, with the necessary safety and a wet track which does not prevent the races from taking place. It didn't rain for long in FP4, but the water remained on the route. On the old asphalt we could run in the rain, we have done that before, but on this one it is not possible because of three or four critical places. It's strange because part of the track dries quite quickly and the other part stays wet for a very long time. »

Already a month ago, Formula 1 drivers spoke about the many bumps. It seems that the new asphalt was not sufficiently finalized for the passage of the racing machines which would have damaged what had just been done: “Before the Formula 1 race, Cal Crutchlow came to the track and said it was perfect and he was going to break the track record by one second. Yesterday he confirmed to us that it was completely flat, and when the Formula 1 drivers drove, they complained about the bumps... Someone has to take responsibility, because when something new is done, it has to be function. Someone has to guarantee the new asphalt. »
