The Ducati rider arrives at the Assen track with the firm desire to catch up in the Championship, while knowing, from his experience, that this Grand Prix is never easy.
Andrea Dovizioso no longer has the right to make mistakes. After a third blank result in Barcelona, he must achieve a good result this weekend to hope to take points from Marc Márquez, the Championship leader. Despite his victory in Qatar and his podium at Mugello, he only occupies eighth place in the general classification and is forty-nine points behind, almost two victories.
Motivated to get off to a good start in Assen, he started slowly in order to see his feelings on this track which is never easy. However, he had a good first day, finishing first fifth in FP1 then sixth in FP2, only four tenths behind the first each time.
Surprised himself, Dovizioso was very satisfied with the work accomplished at the end of the day: “This first day was positive. We started well this morning and we made progress this afternoon. I'm pleasantly surprised because in the middle of the session we really had a good pace and, to be honest, I didn't expect it since it's never easy here in Assen. A lot of riders are fast, but so are we and today that was the main goal. I could have done a better fast lap but found myself facing a lot of traffic. Now we must continue to work on different aspects that can make the difference in the race. »
