The official Yamaha rider is surely having his best start to the weekend of the season, and hopes to continue this momentum to finally return to fight at the front in the race on Sunday.

It has been a long time since Maverick Vinales hadn't felt so good on his machine. He, who is having a complicated start to the season, has finally become competitive again, at least on this first day.

Indeed, as we know, it was not uncommon to see him placed well in certain sessions, then drop to the middle of the rankings. However, it seems that real improvements have been made over the past few Grands Prix, since the Spanish driver is making progress in testing.

His weak point remains the start of the race, and this is precisely the point on which he and his team focused this Friday: “We worked on some small details, where we lost the most in Montmeló, especially the start and the first laps. We were competitive at the end of the race so we are trying to give myself a better feeling with the bike at the start. We want to get off to the best possible start. We struggled last time but we hope to resolve this issue. »

Viñales is on the right track so far, if his results are anything to go by. After finishing second in FP1, just a tenth behind Marc Márquez, he then took the lead in FP2 and finished first on the day in the combined times of both sessions.

A very positive Friday which boosted the morale of the Spanish pilot: “I feel good at Assen, it’s a good circuit for me. The bike works really well and I'm very happy with the work the team has done. We're going to have to stay focused and maintain this level of concentration in order to work on the details and have a solid weekend. It's difficult to predict what we can expect, but after a positive first day like this, we are at the level needed to fight for the race. »
