The Suzuki rider was having an average weekend so far, but came into his own from FP4 onwards and then matched his best qualifying result in Argentina. He will start from the second row tomorrow.
Alex Rins started slowly this weekend in the Netherlands in order to concentrate on his racing pace, which he still lacks. Not being in search of the perfect trick, his results suffered.
He finished fifteenth in FP1, ninth in FP2 and sixteenth in FP3, which took him into Q1. And then, things went better in FP4 and he finished in sixth position. He then clinched his place for Q2 by finishing second in Q1, an extremely competitive session given that the top six finished within less than a tenth.
Q2 was also very close, and the positions kept moving until the end. Ultimately, the Spanish rider finished fifth, his second best qualification in MotoGP after his fifth place in Argentina.
He was obviously very happy when he returned to the box: “We have been working really hard on race pace since yesterday, without really trying to do a fast lap, and finally we did it! In Q1 I drove alone to set my own pace. And in Q2 I tried to take the best trajectories. I'm really happy with this result, and our pace for the race is very good, so I just need to get a good start. The stability of the motorcycle has improved. »
