Arriving in Jerez for his fourth Grand Prix with the Aprilia factory, Andrea Iannone proclaimed to anyone who would listen that he would not take unnecessary risks with an RS-GP on which he decided to carry out in-depth work. And yet, what he feared the most happened: he fell and was injured... As a result, his race in Spain has to be put on hold...

This bad fall for Andrea Iannone occurred during the fourth free practice session of the Spanish Grand Prix. The Aprilia rider from Abruzzo was knocked to the ground at turn 11 at quite a high speed, which destroyed the bike. Andrea immediately got up, but was then taken off the track on a stretcher.

Once he arrived at the pits, he realized he could not place his ankle on the ground and was carried by his team members to the mobile clinic. The qualifications that followed were just a memory. And his weekend may no longer have a future.

Dr. Michael Zasa, head of the mobile clinic, spoke about his condition: “ he suffered trauma to his left ankle, but the x-rays were negative, there were no fractures. He will have to do a more thorough check at the Jerez hospital, because he feels a lot of pain and it is strange for him. With greater resolution we will be able to see if there are micro fractures or other injuries ».
