What an end to the race for the Prüstel GP team! While his two drivers alternated in the lead, and could hope for a double, the last lap turned everything upside down. Fortunately, everyone escaped unscathed.
After correct testing, Jakub Kornfeil achieved the best qualification of his career by placing second. The signals were therefore green for the race, and after a good start, the Czech driver managed things well: “I got off to a good start and wanted to attack from the start because I felt good on my KTM. I did that and was able to lead the race for a while. However, it was impossible for me to escape. So I tried to stay calm and make my own pace. »
Unfortunately, everything changed one lap before the finish line: “In order to prepare for the last lap and to position myself well, I drove close to the driver who was in the lead, Enea Bastianini. It wasn't a good idea, because Bastianini crashed and I had no way to avoid him: I had to jump over his bike. Once in the air my airbags were triggered, and when I fell I injured myself a little. I didn't want to give up and gave everything until the end. I am very happy with this sixth place, even if a better result would have been possible. This was my best weekend! »
Kornfeil's catch will undoubtedly remain the strong image of this French Grand Prix!
On his teammate's side Marco Bezzecchi, the end of the race was also eventful. However, the weekend went well. The Italian, leader of the Championship, finished sixth in the combined times of free practice, before also qualifying in sixth position.
Just like Korfeil, he got off to a good start and fought in the lead group. Leader at the end of the race, he gave everything to keep his place, but unfortunately was the victim of a big high side in the last corner, and took the unfortunate Jorge Martín with him.
Fortunately, everyone got back up, but both drivers lost big points in the crash, and they will have to make up for it at Mugello in two weeks. Bezzecchi, however, remains confident: “The race was really good. I was able to ride well in the leading group and lead part of the race. Obviously, the last lap was essential to achieve victory and was therefore a bit eventful. In the last corner, Fabio Di Giannantonio overtook me and I wanted to respond immediately in order to be the first to enter the straight. Unfortunately, I did a high side and fell. I am very angry. Fortunately, I still lead the Championship, and will try to attack again in my home Grand Prix. »
