What an end to the Grand Prix for the Gresini team! While he was preparing to do a double, a racing incident and a penalty ruined all the work accomplished and the hopes of his drivers.

The start of the weekend was a little complicated for the Gresini team drivers. Jorge Martin, first of all, did not know what to expect with his injured hand following the collective fall caused by Arón Canet in Jerez and in which he was involved. Fortunately, the pain did not interfere with his driving, however he struggled to get grip with his rear tire on Friday and Saturday.

In the top 10 in all sessions, he managed to get pole, and fought for victory, as usual. However Marco Bezzecchi fell in front of him in the last corner of the last lap. Impossible for the Spanish driver to avoid it, he hit it head-on, fortunately without consequences. He therefore finds himself once again on the ground, without any points scored, having nothing to do with it.

Disappointed upon his return to the box, he now tries to remain positive: “A lot of bad luck again. Despite everything, the weekend was complicated so being there, at the front, fighting for victory was a great feeling. We really hope to have some luck again because with this fall in front of me I couldn't do anything. Today I could have finished on the podium. We will come back stronger at Mugello. »

For its part, Fabio Di Giannantonio was also unlucky, although he was able to finish the race. A little further behind Martín during practice, he still qualified in eighth position. Also in the leading group, he managed his race perfectly and avoided pitfalls to win for the first time in his career.

After an emotional lap of honor, he arrived at the parc ferme where he was told that he was penalized two seconds for cutting a corner in the middle of the race, which caused him to finish fourth. His reaction shook the hearts of more than one, and he returned to his box completely dejected: “In my heart I won the race. With Kornfeil it was weird because we entered the chicane together and he touched me while passing me, which forced me to literally cut the corner, and when I came back on track I put myself back in my place . I gained nothing from the maneuver, perhaps I even lost more. We had a perfect weekend and a fantastic race, the team worked incredibly well. I want to thank the whole team and my family. »
