While his teammate Andrea Iannone scored two podiums, Álex Rins, for his part, fell twice in Texas and in Jerez. He therefore arrived at the French Grand Prix with the desire to have a good weekend and to finish the race.

Alex Rins encountered difficulties at Le Mans. First seventeenth in FP1, he progressed slowly in FP2 where he finished fifteenth, and finally in FP3 where he took thirteenth position. Not qualified for Q2, he then remained at the same pace in FP4 with fourteenth place, before qualifying fifteenth for the race.

However, the announcement of his contract renewal with Suzuki should have helped him feel better, but things don't always go in the right direction: “The weekend was really difficult for me. I tried to manage everything and be quick. »

Fortunately, the race went well and he managed to have a good pace which allowed him to finish tenth. This place as well as the six points taken are important after his two blank results: “During the race I tried to find the right balance, and I think finishing tenth is a good result. I fought with Aleix, Maverick and Cal during the last laps and we had a good end of the race. »

Aware of his weak points, the Spanish driver also knew that these last Grands Prix would not be easy given that he was discovering them for the first time this year. He had in fact missed a good part of the start of the 2017 season due to an injury: “Now I have to work hard from Friday, especially since now I have ridden in MotoGP on all the tracks we go to. Things are going in the right direction, and we are going to Mugello focused and with the desire to have a good weekend. »
