Unhappy yesterday at the foot of the podium during the first race held in Jerez, this time the Spaniard managed the last lap better to finally snatch victory.

Failures are often sources of motivation for pilots. Daniel Holgado is no exception to the rule, he whose fourth place acquired on Saturday, a meager result after having led a good part of the first event run in Spain, had undoubtedly remained in the throat.

But the night brings advice, allows you to re-mobilize yourself, and the young man, at the age of 16, returned to work on Sunday to achieve what he had not managed to obtain the day before. Like the first race, he immediately took the reins, ensuring for a long time a sufficient margin to protect himself from a rise by his competitors.

Long lapse avalanche

The most serious of them was undoubtedly Diogo Moreira, the only one committed to really succeeding in keeping up with the pace set by the future winner. The Brazilian would undoubtedly have won if he had not, like many of his companions on the track, had to take a long lap after having exceeded the limits of the route.

This penalty served on the sixth lap, the mission was therefore simple for Auriverde: Attack without counting to try to get back into the lead: “ When I saw that I had to do a long lap, I knew I had to do it as soon as possible possible,” he explained after the event. “ After scoring my penalty I knew I had to join the group [which was fighting for victory] in view of the last turns. »

A goal that he managed to maintain, even if he was ultimately a little too short to snatch victory in the last lap from Holgado, finishing only 0″136 behind his opponent. The latter was also understandably satisfied with this more favorable outcome than the day before: “It was an incredible race for me. Difficult, but I'm happy for me and for the team. Today the last turn made all the difference. If yesterday was hard, today was much better. »

Alonso loses his mind

Much better in the race but also in the championship, since he takes the lead in the classification with four units ahead of David Alonso. Double winner in Portugal at the opening of the season, the latter failed to confirm this weekend. Seventh at the end of the first race, he finished one place lower on Sunday, again the fault of a long lap which turned into a three-second penalty at the finish, he not having had time to observe his sanction on the track. As to winner of Race 1, David Muñoz, he could not do better this time than seventh.

Behind Holgado and Moreira, we will also remember the great performance ofAlex Millan, which completes the podium. The only French driver on the board, Bartholomé Perrin, for his part experienced more difficulties, being the last driver classified in 20th position.

The Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup will now let a short month pass before returning to action for the third round of the season, which will be held at Mugello from May 28 to 30.
