It was this Sunday that a statue in memory of the Finnish World Champion was inaugurated in Turku.
This statue is a gift from Italy. It was sculpted by Elia Alunni Tullini. An identical model has existed in the town of Assisi in Italy since 2016. The president of the Italian Moto Club Jarno Saarinen Roberto Ballarini was present.
In her acceptance speech, Saarinen's widow, Soili Karme, said “It means a lot to me. Jarno was well known and deserves a statue.
“We were together for eleven years. We formed a team with which he won the World Championship. Jarno had a playful and joyful nature, which is brought out in the statue. »
