Perfect reproductions of larger-scale objects in miniature form are extremely pleasing to the eye, and for the more patient among us, they are also very interesting to build. If you're looking for a functional, true-to-life Harley-Davidson Panhead engine that fits in your hand, the company There are has what you need in stock.

Since the late 1880s, V2 engines have been used for motorcycles and in several small cars. The most common V-twins are found on Harley Davidsons with a 45° angle, most of which are air-cooled engines, but they also have water-cooled engines like on the VRod. These engines are mainly used because of their compact size, high power/displacement ratio and torque obtained at very low speeds.

Inherent vibration is often associated with the mystique of the V-twin, but it's an unfortunate side effect of their design. Harley Davidson placed its two cylinders 45 degrees apart on a common crankcase primarily so that the engine would fit into a frame originally intended for a single-cylinder powerplant. Unfortunately, a 45 degree V-angle has a prominent vibration “signature”.

This Harley Davidson Panhead engine is manufactured by a company called Cison, and although it is quite small, it works perfectly. When clamped in a vise on the workbench in the video above, like a Harley Davidson engine, everything shakes on the workbench. It couldn't be closer to reality!

According to Cison's instructions, it is possible to run it with gasoline or Zippo fuel mixed with oil. The manufacturer's specifications say it has a displacement of 9 cc, and you probably won't be surprised to find that no horsepower is available for this extremely small grinder.

Reviews seem to be quite positive about it, praising the attention to detail and careful CNC aluminum manufacturing. Be aware, however, that this level of quality and attention to detail comes at a price. In this case, the basic version (excluding shipping) is priced at $599,99. It appears to be available in multiple currencies and countries, so exact amounts will vary depending on where you are.
