Andrea Migno had started the 2023 season unemployed then was called up for a replacement in Moto3 and scored a splendid third place in Argentina. No other Italian rider has managed to reach the podium this year in the Moto3 world championship. However, it was all for nothing. The Romagna pilot was on foot and remained so, with the exception of a few replacements. He even made his debut in MotoE and Supersport to replace injured riders, but the doors remained closed to him. For 2024, he sees no glimmer of hope.
“If I have to tell the truth, at the end of the year, I had fun too”, confessed Andrea Migno exclusively in Corsedimoto, “I even made a podium and I'm happy, it's just a shame that it didn't help because absolutely nothing has changed”.
How to explain this?
“Unfortunately for me, as a driver, the situation is complicated. Almost nothing has changed since then the last time we spoke. I have tested all possible terrains and everywhere I am asked for large sums of money. I have no budget to bring to the race, the VR46 even less so. Logically I'm not the only driver in this situation, I think it's a pretty common problem now. »
Are you also moving towards Supersport?
“Honestly, if I had to spend money, I would do it to race in the Moto3 or Moto2 world championship. The Superbike paddock is calmer, I like that, but it's not my priority. Of course, if I had the chance to race with a good Supersport team, maybe with a Ducati, I would seriously consider it, but I would like to stay more in MotoGP. In any case, it's a problem that doesn't arise at the moment, because I don't have the budget to run here or there. »
How did you get into MotoE?
“It’s a championship that I like, the experience in Misano was a little difficult but not bad. But I had no success and there was no follow-up: even there, I don’t see much chance for me.”
Will you continue to be a television commentator?
“I call this experience an interlude. I had fun, but it was a stopgap. I don’t really think I’ll continue being a TV commentator, I’m ruling it out.”
Andrea Migno, what are your plans for 2024?
“I would like to continue being a rider, I would like to race for a few more years, but if I don't find a saddle, I will wait. In the meantime, I will continue to be involved in the motorcycle world, but doing something else.”
