The MotoGP category is the pinnacle of speed motorcycling competition, and if Hervé Poncharal had been told that one of his Rookies would score points in the first five races of the season, he would undoubtedly have signed straight away. Moreover, he signed, in this case Jonas Folger who presents himself at Mugello after having scored points during the first 5 Grands Prix of the season (10th, 6th, 11th, 8th and 7th).
A completely positive first assessment which has only one fault; that of being overshadowed by that of your own teammate!
Jonas Folger, 9th in the championship with 38 points: “I'm looking forward to the race at the legendary Mugello circuit because of the track it is, but also because we did a very good job at Le Mans. Unfortunately, my qualifying result on Saturday in France wasn't as high on the grid as I had hoped, so I have to try to be more confident during the weekend in Mugello. I am fully determined and will do my best to fight as close to the lead and get a better position on Sunday. Mugello is a great track and the Yamaha suits the nature of the circuit well, so I'm really excited and confident about this race in Italy. »
Hervé Poncharal, Team manager: “Now here is the Italian Grand Prix on the magnificent Mugello circuit which is certainly one of the most loved places in the entire paddock, and personally, it is probably my favorite. There is always an incredible atmosphere and the passionate fans are true promoters of MotoGP racing who support at full volume! Usually this track is quite beneficial to the Yamaha YZR-M1, and although we haven't tested there recently, some of our competitors have, but we are confident that at From FP2 onwards, we will be in the mix. It’s a circuit that both of our riders really love and enjoy, so with the YZR-M1s and their records at Mugello, we can look forward to another exciting Italian Grand Prix…”
