When we look at the timesheet of MotoGP Grand d’Italia qualifying and when we focus on the case of the Marc VDS Racing drivers, we are in for a shock. But the fact is there: Tito Rabat first qualified directly for Q.2 from which he came out with an honorable tenth position. Then, continuing the study, we discover a XNUMXth century Jack Miller. And enough uplifted…
The Australian came very close to death a fortnight ago, at Le Mans, but nevertheless, he does not take this frightening fall as an excuse, which undoubtedly weakened him physically, to explain this inverted pyramid within his team. But, at the same time, he does not hide his frustration any more: “ When you ride on fresh tires while waiting for a rider to lap your time behind, you can be fast. You can also end up on the ground ».
In this case, it is the aspiration of Marc Marquez from which Tito took advantage. Who is warned by the 22-year-old pilot: “ at the end of the race, I will be in front of him ". For that, he will have to come back from his nineteenth place. A position that reflects his meeting so far: “ Already yesterday, the performances were modest, but we thought that we could redo the bike overnight for this Saturday and thus make progress. I'm working hard to find my feel with the new front tire ».
« I thought I had found something during FP4, but we are suffering because unlike Ducati, HRC and also the LCR team, we did not go to Barcelona to do tests and find adjustments for this front tire. We can't get it to work properly. I narrowly miss the fall each time. But I still managed to do a 1'47 ».
Now the race is a different story: “ we will make a better impression than during qualifying. With the hard tires we have a decent pace. We are working on the geometry, we are on the fork angle, but progress is slow. We also study the tire pressure to find the largest surface area. But it's not as convincing as hoped. We slip too much. During FP3, we didn't take the right direction. But we also have ideas that we will test during the warm-up ».
Jack Miller has set itself this season to score at all the Grands Prix. A mission so far accomplished with the exception of Spain after a clash with Baptist followed by a fight in the gravel trap. Miller is a sanguine. So that Rabat should not triumph too much in the box…
