Before this Italian Grand Prix, Dani Pedrosa was on a great run. Third in the last French Grand Prix, he came second in the championship at Mugello and therefore ahead of his teammate Marc Márquez, a first since Assen 2013. Better, he remained in three consecutive top 3s, which had not happened to him since 2014. He had just rejoined the list of favorites for the world title. But Tuscany was his way of the cross. Things turn around quickly in MotoGP.

However, Dani Pedrosa had prepared his case well during the free practice sessions. Constantly concentrating on the race, he showed a pace that did not leave his teammate indifferent. To the point that the latter announced to anyone who would listen that he could be a major player for the Sunday deadline.

His fifth place, ahead Marc Márquez, at the end of qualifying seemed to confirm all these great dispositions. But once the start was given, everything fell apart: “ I fought against a lack of general grip throughout the weekend. But in the race, it was worse. From the start, I had no grip, either front or rear. ". We will recall that Dani took a hard front and a medium rear while Márquez et Crutchlow had opted for a couple of mediums.

« Many drivers overtook me without me ever being able to give the slightest response. The bike moved a lot, even in a straight line. I couldn't keep her under control ". And then came the incident with Cal Crutchlow...

« On the last lap I tried to pass him and I crashed. I'm sorry about that because it's never nice to take a driver with you when you make a mistake. Fortunately, we are not injured. Now, direction Barcelona where I hope to find better sensations ».

Dani Pedrosa, with his scoreless score, fell to fifth place in the championship and finds himself tied on points with his teammate.
