This Friday was not the most favorable for Lorenzo, with only tenth place in the general classification, and fifth position in the symbolic Ducati classification. However, he came to Mugello for a day of testing last week, and on the other hand he has already been victorious five times in the Italian Grand Prix. A clear improvement is therefore expected this Saturday.

During the first free practice session, Jorge finished in sixth position with a time of 1'47.747, 0.353 behind the leader, his teammate Andrea Dovizioso. It was completely honest, but the afternoon was less pleasant.

In FP2, not only did Lorenzo not improve, but he even regressed slightly to eleventh position in 1'47.954, 0.589 behind Cal Crutchlow. In the general classification combined for the two free sessions, this placed him in tenth position, that is to say in a more than perilous situation to rank in the top 10 which will go directly to Q2. The Spaniard will have to seriously react and progress.

At the Italian Grand Prix, Lorenzo has won five times and has never finished higher than second place since 2009 (inclusive). So with a rider who has always been on one of the two highest steps for the previous eight years, the pressure is more on Ducati because we know that the rider is performing well. Italian motorcycling has been in the past, notably with the magnificent victory obtained by Casey Stoner in 2009, one second ahead of Lorenzo and two ahead of Rossi. But Lorenzo will have to prove himself this Saturday, his teammates Andrea Dovizioso and Michele Pirro having placed second and fourth this Friday.

For Jorge Lorenzo, “This morning, even though I wasn't completely comfortable on the bike, I managed to set good times. Unfortunately, on the last lap, when I had a new tire fitted, I found some traffic in the last corner and I was unable to improve my lap time.

“In the afternoon we focused on running on worn tires in preparation for the race, but we didn't manage to be very fast. In general, I can't be too satisfied because I still lack something in the settings to be able to ride with more confidence and achieve faster times. »
