The air temperature was 19°, the track temperature was 24°, and the weather forecast predicted good weather for the entire weekend, with temperatures identical throughout the three days of the GP. Facing the Championship leader Joan mir, it was going to be interesting to situate the performances of his local opponents as Romano Fenati, Fabio di Giannantonio, Davide Bulega, Enea Bastianini and Andrea Migno.

In addition to the KTM “Evo” frame, the Sky Racing Team VR46 riders had the new WP fork tested during the post-GP test at Le Mans by Juanfran Guevara (RBA BOÉ Racing Team) and the wild card Danny Kent (Red Bull KTM Ajo). We noted the presence at Mugello as a wild card ofEdoardo Sintoni who participates in the CIV within “3570 Talenti Azzurri FMI”, the team of the Federazione Motociclistica Italiana sponsored by Cooperativa RadioTaxi 3570. Darryn binder (KTM Platinum Bay Real Estate) sported a helmet decoration identical to that of Nicky Hayden.

The first interesting time was to the credit of Andrea Migno in 2'00.7. Juanfran Guevara passed in 2'00.066. Migno was the first to go under two minutes in 1'59.902, then he progressed to 1'58.966.

Migno was leading at mid-session on his Sky Racing Team VR46 KTM, but the Hondas were starting to gradually move towards the front, with George Martin (Gresini) second ahead of Joan Mir (Leopard). Tony Arbolino slipped into Mir's aspi and snatched third place from him, on a Honda from the SIC58 Squadra Corse, the team of Mir's father. Marco Simoncelli who are competing this weekend in a very emotional way for their first Italian Grand Prix as a permanent team.

7 minutes from the checkered flag, Migno's lead over the “wild horde” was comfortable, with 0.797 ahead of Martin, 0.8 over Arbolino and Mir. Jules Danilo occupied twelfth position at 1.4. Jorge Martin achieved 1'58.473 with 4 minutes to go, which Romano Fenati improved to 1'58.383.

Finally, Romano Fenati finished first in 1'58.387, ahead of Jorge Martin, Nicolo Bulega, Joan Mir, Juanfran Guevara and Andrea Migno. Jules Danilo finished twenty-first.
