Johann Zarco and Danilo Petrucci both qualified for Q2 as Cal Crutchlow failed and Jonas Folger crashed.

Before this first qualifying session – through which he had already passed at Le Mans – Johann zarco was positive at the end of the third free session: “ FP3: 11th time in 1'47.257 this morning with a nice improvement of 428/1000 compared to Friday ". His confidence was reinforced by his best time achieved during FP4, ahead of Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez. Cal Crutchlow was also a favorite in this Q1, after falling at the start of FP3, which cost him the direct transfer.
Zarco was pitted against Barbera, Petrucci, Abraham, Lowes, Iannone, Crutchlow, Smith, Miller, Pol Espargaro, Redding, Guintoli, Baz and Folger.

Hector Barbera set the first fast time in 1'47.702, while Johann Zarco set off with 6 minutes remaining (out of a total of 15). Jonas Folger took the lead in 1'47.305, then Danilo Petrucci overtook him in 1'47.285.
Johann Zarco, with Loris Baz and his teammate Hector Barbera in his wheel, set the fifth time. Barbera moved into first position in 1'47.272, soon overtaken by Crutchlow in 1'47.220, while Jonas Folger fell in turn 11.
Zarco set the best time with one minute remaining in 1'47.080. Petrucci took second. Zarco improved further in 1'47.058 and qualified for Q2 with Petrucci.
