This first day of private testing of Moto2 and Moto3 in Jerez took place under exceptionally good weather conditions: bright sunshine and 22° in the air.

There were many new features for this first prelude to the 2017 season, with the arrival of Moto3 riders in Moto2, as well as that of KTM and Suter in the intermediate category, even if for the latter, it is in fact a return after a year of absence.

En Moto2, we thus witnessed the arrivals of Jorge Navarro at Gresini, Fabio Quartararo at Pons, Francesco Bagnaia in the new VR46 team and Brad Binder at KTM Moto2.

As for today's times, Takaaki Nakagami was the fastest, 1.42.181, ahead of Alex Marquez in 1.42.478. Next Lorenzo Baldassarri in 1.42.520, Luca Marini in 1.42.798, Danny Kent in 1.43.156 and Edgar Pons in with 1.43.212.
Dominique Aegerter places Suter in 7th position, in 1.43.320, just in front of Miguel Oliveira's KTM who therefore finished eighth with a 1.43.547.

After a brief test of a Ducati MotoGP in Valencia, Francesco Bagnaia proved to be the fastest ex-Moto3 rider by finishing 9th, 1,5 seconds behind the best time, and his more than rapid adaptation to the category is already causing a form of concern among the leaders of the category.

Conversely, Yonny Herandez, “come down” from MotoGP, finishes this first day only 12th, just in front of Fabio Quartararo and Jorge Navarro, the first having been the most diligent, completing no less than 105 laps of the Andalusian circuit.

En Moto3, we witness the smashing return of “Bad Boy” Romano Fenati which shows that he lost none of his talent during his forced rest. The Italian driver even precedes Enea Bastianini et Will Bendsneyder of 2 tenths.

Jules Danilo finished 11th in the category, just ahead Marco Bezzechi, the only driver from the CIP-Unicom Starker team to have made the trip to Jerez.

Tomorrow, a second and final day will conclude this first pre-winter 2017 test.
