Despite his very spectacular fall at high speed during free practice of the French Grand Prix, Miller equaled his best performance of the season at Le Mans by finishing eighth.
Unharmed, but physically tired, Miller then preferred to skip the two days of MotoGP testing organized in Barcelona just after the Le Mans race in order to rest his ankle, which was affected during his fall. He has been treated with an intense physiotherapy program and should be able to defend his chances in Italy.
It can hardly be said that Mugello was a success for the Australian: in five attempts, he only saw the finish twice, in tenth (Moto3 / 2013) and twenty-first (Moto3 / 2012) positions. It was better in qualifying, with the second fastest time in 2014 in Moto3, the year he finished vice-World Champion, two points behind his current Marc VDS teammate Alex Marquez.
This year, after five GPs, Miller occupies tenth position in the provisional general classification with 29 points, 9 points behind Jonas Folger, and 3 points ahead of Pramac duo Scott Redding and Danilo Petrucci.
In the first five Grands Prix, he has finished in the top 10 four times, and that will be his target again for the Mugello race this weekend.
For Jack Miller, “ Just after Le Mans, I had a scan of my hand and knee to make sure I didn't have anything broken. From there, I worked with my physio to deflate both.
“I did a lot of cycling this week and I was also able to ride a little Supermotard without encountering any problems. So here I am ready for Mugello. This track is one of the rather special circuits in the championship, and like all the other drivers, I really enjoy driving there.
“You need horses for the long straight, but also great confidence in the front, an area in which we have made real progress since the start of the year.
“We should therefore be able to recover in the bends what we risk losing in a straight line. I think a new top ten is possible this weekend. »
