While calmly braking, Lorenzo was hit by Cal Crutchlow's Honda which had just fallen. The shock was quite violent and Jorge feared a fracture for quite a long time. It was in fact a contusion, so no broken bones, but we were not far from disaster.

In the first free practice session, where this incident took place, Lorenzo set the fourth fastest time in the wet in 1'56.6, behind Marc Marquez, Aleix Espargaro and Scott Redding. He then preceded his teammate Andrea Dovizioso and Johann Zarco.

During the second session, everyone improved (except Scott Redding fourteenth) including Lorenzo who retained fourth position, behind Andrea Dovizioso, Marc Marquez and Alex Espargaro, gaining 1.4 compared to his morning time.

According to Jorge Lorenzo, who are " Everything is fine, but after the accident I was really worried, because 20 seconds after the fall, my hand was so swollen and the pain was so great that I expected a fracture. But the X-ray image from Clinica Mobile showed that there was no fracture.

“I'm very happy about it because it could have gone wrong. If you look at the footage of the fall and see how hard the bike hit me, it was a very hard impact.

“At first, Cal didn't want to apologize. He asked me why I was so slow. But after two hours he came to me and apologized, he understood that it was his mistake. Yes, I was driving slowly, but he saw me before, that's why he also knew what the best line was. For me he was too aggressive, so he lost control of his bike, but he apologized, so it's good for me.

“Apart from the accident, the day went well for me. In FP2 – especially during the last run – I got into a very good rhythm. We are very optimistic that we can fight for a place on the front row, and even on pole.

“In the rain you never know what you will feel, due to different asphalt structures. We have now shown that our bike is very competitive in the rain, our pace very good, we can fight for an important place. It will be a long race in difficult conditions, it will rain a lot, that's why it won't be easy to stay on the bike, but we are fast and competitive. »
