Here is a reminder of the regulations concerning MotoGP tires.

We see that MotoGP has 22 tires for a race weekend, but only 13 rain tires, or even 11 if one of the sessions takes place in the dry.

Will this be enough in Japan or will we see drivers waiting in their box during a session, due to a lack of high-performance tires?

Between FP1, FP2, FP3, FP4, qualification, warm up and race, we are talking about no less than 7 sessions, which implies, if the track remains permanently wet, that at least one front rain tire will have to do several sessions ( generally the warm up), without even mentioning the type of rubber (Soft and Medium for the front in Japan, Extra-Soft and Soft for the rear).

Pneumatic regulations 2017

Total allocation per race: 22 “slick” tires
10 Front “slick” tires: Maximum of 5 specification A compounds, maximum of 5 specification B compounds and maximum of 5 specification C compounds.
12 rear “slick” tires: Maximum of 6 specification A* rubbers, maximum of 5 specification B rubbers and maximum of 4 specification C rubbers.

*drivers participating in both Q1 and Q2 (Maximum 2 drivers) will be allocated an additional rear slick tire of specification A (highest grip level) after Q2. They will then benefit from a maximum of 7 specification A tires.

11 “rain” tires
5 front tires: Maximum of 4 compounds with specification A and maximum of 2 compounds with specification B.
6 rear tires: Maximum of 5 compounds with specification A and maximum of 2 compounds with specification B.

In the event that all of the free practice sessions and at least one qualifying session are declared "wet", the allocation is then made up of 6 front rain tires, 4 specifications A + 2 specifications B, and 7 rear rain tires , 5 A specifications + 2 B specifications.
