HDR Heidrun-Speed Up driver Jorge Navarro returned to the Jerez de la Frontera circuit this Saturday to determine his position on Sunday's starting grid, after gaining direct access to Q2.

At the end of a lively qualifying session, the Spanish driver pushed his Speed Up to the limit to take pole position and beat the absolute lap record by finishing with a best time of 1'41.182, confirming the improvements achieved since the first race of the season.

Since when has a Moto2 other than a Kalex not been in pole position?
Since the 2018 Austrian Grand Prix, where Brad Binder was the fastest on his KTM.

What do we really know about this Speed Up from Luca Boscoscuro's team?, Team Manager of Gilera from 2006 to 2009, brand with which he won the 2008cc title in 250. Marco Simoncelli ?
Actually, not much, except that it has been in particularly good shape since adopting the Triumph engine, although it was also competitive (and victorious) last year with fabio quartararo (and well before with Andrea Iannone)!

She was born in 2012 in Italy with the aura of a project sponsored by Aprilia which, let us remember, dominated the intermediate category during the decade thanks to its fantastic 250 RSAs. There we found in particular the ribbed frame spars specific to the Noale brand, then, much later, the carbon swingarm initiated by the Italian 2-stroke machines.

Today, still managed by the famous Eros Braconi (ex-Campetella), it is simply rumored that it would be built in Italy by former Aprilia suppliers (DVF) and that the carbon arm would come from MPE.

No guarantee… But we promise, we will try to find out (much) more very soon.

Jorge Navarro: “Super, super happy with the work we did this weekend. In the morning session we did several laps on the worn tire trying to find a good pace, and afterwards I knew we could be very fast in qualifying with the new tire, but I didn't thought about pole position. Once on the track, I waited for the right moment to do my best and I managed to set a great time. I'm very happy, tomorrow we'll start from pole and we'll see how far we can go! ".
