This Moto3 Spanish Grand Prix will have a Lorenzo Dalla Porta in control of his starting grid, a first for the Italian from the Leopard team. But perhaps also a poisoned chalice. Indeed, the last seven Moto3 races which took place on the Jerez circuit were won by six different riders: Romano Fenati (2012 and 2014), Maverick Vinales (2013), Danny Kent (2015), Brad Binder (2016), Aron Canet (2017) and Philipp Öttl (2018). And none of them won from pole position... Will Dalla Porta defeat the Indian sign this Sunday?
Before answering that question, here's a refresher on the facts as the drivers embark on their warm-up session...

16° in the air and 17° on the track with a slightly cloudy sky, these are the conditions offered to the pilots in this last test gallop. The riders take their time because although the track is open, you have to wait until the second minute to see the motorcycles come out of the boxes. We will observe the holding of Masiá, leader of the championship with Canet, but qualified only fifteenth.
Canet achieves a 1'47.394 as the first reference in front fenati et Masiwill, McPhee et Antonelli. The one who fell during qualifying and who will start seventh improves to 1'47.233. Migno takes second place. fenati remains third. He will start tenth. Drive et Lopez fail to hang on.

Canet is untouchable and achieves a good 1'46.651 which gives him almost half a second ahead of Masia. He is ahead of his teammate Migno. These two men will start fifteenth and thirteenth, which promises a comeback for the race... Especially since the Italian clocks a 1'46.553 which steals the show from Canet. Masia, Sasaki et fenati close a top 5 where the leading trio rides a KTM. The poleman Dalla Porta is only twelfth.
