Oh how happy we are with this 2nd day of official Moto2 testing on the Jerez circuit!
Here, around ten drivers had shattered the record for the Andalusian route, to start with Luca marini (Kalex, SKY Racing Team VR46), Iker Lecuona (KTM, American Racing KTM), Sam Lowes (Kalex, Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) and Brad Binder (KTM, Red Bull KTM Ajo).
But today, if the 3 sessions did not make it possible to improve the 1'41.146 of Valentino Rossi's brother, the times have tightened noticeably, which bodes well for fierce races in 2019.
Indeed, at the end of this 2nd day, no less than 5 drivers are less than 2/10, and there are 19 in the same second.
Of course, we find the same protagonists as yesterday at the top of the ranking, Alex Marquez (Kalex, Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) winning the first session in 1'41.208 ahead Lorenzo Baldassarri (Kalex, Flex-Box Pons HP 40), Marcel Schrötter (Kalex, Dynavolt Intact GP), Enea Bastianini (Kalex, Italtrans Racing Team) and Brad Binder (KTM, Red Bull KTM Ajo).
And it was once again a Kalex quartet which was at the top of the table during the intermediate session swept by a strong gusty wind, Remy gardner (Kalex, Onebox TKKR SAG Team) appearing in 1'41.838 ahead Alex Marquez (Kalex, Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS), Sam Lowes (Kalex, Federal Oil Gresini Moto2), Luca marini (Kalex, SKY Racing Team VR46) and Brad Binder (KTM, Red Bull KTM Ajo).
But the latter concluded the day by imposing his KTM in 1'41.284 during the 3rd and final session, ahead of Jorge Navarro (Speed Up, +Ego Speed Up) and his visibly well-born Speed Up, as confirmed by the 13th place obtained in the session by his teammate Fabio di Giannantonio (Speed Up, +Ego Speed Up)!
This is not the only bike that appears quite competitive in the middle of the Kalex/KTM duel since Bo Bendsneyder (NTS, NTS RW Racing GP) managed to place his Japanese NTS in the top 10 during the last session.
The arrival of the Triumph engine and the new electronics therefore seems to bring a little freshness to the Moto2 panorama. To confirm…
Tomorrow Friday, the last day of these official tests before the bikes are packed for Qatar, the problem will be to try to improve the record of Luca marini, without taking too many risks, otherwise you will have to completely rebuild a motorcycle upon arrival at Losail, for the tests which will take place from March 1st to 3rd.
