While factory Honda and Yamaha riders generally said the new, stiffer-structured Michelin was better, the Ducati team leader did not agree that the new tire was inferior, and that Michelin should continue to supply the softer constructed front end.

Lorenzo proposed that Michelin continue to offer the current tire before finding a “ new construction that everyone loves ". His teammate Andrea Dovizioso barely felt a difference between the two before.

“I didn't try it much, just two or three laps, explained Lorenzo, but for sure, it's not better. It might be a little worse in the middle of the turn. So half of the pilots say it's a little better, half of them say it's a little worse.

“It’s a shame that they are changing because only one leader is asking for it. I think it's smarter to keep the ones we have now. I don't know what's going on but I want to talk to them. For me, it's a little worse.

“The big brake guys say it's a little more stable when braking. I feel more or less the same when braking and I feel a little less grip on the corner.

“To be honest, I haven't tried it too much. In Valencia it was okay. Here it was a little worse for me. But I didn't try it with the rear tire I used then. There was a little less performance. It wasn't the perfect test, but for me it doesn't change that much. It might be smarter to keep it the same. »

Regarding Ducati, “ We didn't test any new parts. We tried three or four settings. Some have improved the bike as used in racing, so I am satisfied and happy. I really like this bike. Things change a lot in a few weeks, so it was very positive.

“At Mugello it will be important to understand the settings for this track. I think we have a good chance because the bike was very competitive in the final laps of last year's race. We have a long straight for Mugello to be favorable to us. »

“Getting on the podium in Jerez with Ducati is clearly better than with the Yamaha, which is a more complete bike and which has won many championships. At the moment our bike is very fast and has strong points, but it is not yet complete enough to fight for the championship. This is our goal. That's why I'm happy to finish on the podium in my fourth race with the team. »
