Following a heavy fall during testing for the North West 200, McGuinness injured his vertebrae and his leg. It was the latter which posed the most problems because it had to be held in place by an external fixator, which was not possible.

His team, HRC, contacted him at the hospital, and John gave his news while thanking very much everyone who had supported him, and still supports him, at this difficult time.

For John McGuinness, “I am truly overwhelmed by the amount of support and good wishes that have flooded me since my accident at the North West 200 last Thursday.

“Myself and my wife Becky have received so much support and I can't thank the racing fans, people in the industry, medical teams and fellow drivers enough.

“All your messages help me get through the dark hours.

“I am still at the Royal Victoria Hospital being treated for the leg injury. The fixative is still to be installed because they don't want to run the risk of infection, so for the moment we're taking it day by day.

“I'm not going to lie, missing the TT this year is going to hurt, but I'll watch everything there is to see! Good luck to all the boys going there.

“If I can get there, of course I will, but at the moment it's all day to day and I have to do everything I can to heal and get better. It will be a long road ahead, but I have a great support network around me, so I have to be patient and take each day as it comes.

" Thanks again. »
