For the second time since its creation in 1924, the German speed championship, which can therefore boast of being one of the oldest in Europe, is likely to not take place next year.
After an initial interruption obviously due to the Second World War, today financial difficulties threaten the Germanic sector, difficulties resulting from a lack of public interest and having already led to a constant change of promoters.
Following a serious but vain attempt to redress the situation for 3 years by MotorEvents which had refocused on the "commercial" categories by temporarily abandoning the Moto3 (no Moto2 in IDM), it is today an association of five manufacturers and importers, theIVM, which manages the Teutonic championship.
This is currently limited to the following categories; Superbike, Superstock 1000, Supersport 600, Supersport 300 and Sidecars.
Despite this, the current promoter, after only one year of operation, does not consider the concept economically viable and has announced that he wants to hand over control in 2018. However, not many hands have been raised, even if Bike-Promotion, a major organizer of track days could be interested.
While waiting for possible good news, the German pilots having a certain notoriety, starting with Jonas Folger, Stefan Bradl, Sandro Cortese, Marcel Schrotter, Philipp Öttl and others, appeal for help to save the German championship.
When we know the strength of the German automobile industry, and even the motorcycle industry with BMW, this is a real subject for reflection...
