This Saturday, the skies opened on an atypical qualifying day at MotorLand Aragon for the sixth round of the FIM JuniorGP World Championship™, with drivers competing not only against each other, but also against tricky wet conditions.
In category JuniorGP, Brian Uriarte (SeventyTwo Artbox Racing Team) looks set to continue where he left off in Jerez and was fastest in qualifying for the FIM JuniorGP™ World Championship, securing pole position with a time of 2'11.223.
Joining Brian Uriarte on the front row in JuniorGP™ is the championship leader Alvaro Carpe (STV Laglisse Racing) and Milan Pawelec (STV Laglisse Racing). Although it is not yet a match point for 17-year-old Carpe, the Spanish rider could be getting closer to the coveted JuniorGP™ title. His teammate Pawelec has secured his best grid position and will start from P3.
On the second line, we find Cormac Buchanan (AGR Team), Maximo Quiles (Team Estrella Galicia 0,0), which had to go through Q1, and Guido Pini (SeventyTwo Artbox Racing Team).
Alberto Ferrandez (Finetwork Team) was the fastest in the qualifying session of the Moto2 European Championship™, and will start from pole for the first time in its history in the category.
Alongside Ferrandez on the front row of the Moto2™ ECh, we find Eric Fernandez (Fau55 Tey Racing) and Mattia Volpi (MMR). The Championship leader, Roberto Garcia (Fantic Cardoso Racing), did not live up to the event: he started from P10 and conceded the initiative in the race for the title to Mattia Casadei (Team Ciatti-Boscoscuro) who starts from the second row after securing P4.
French side, Johann Gimbert (Promoracing) will take off from 8th place, while Lorenzo Fellon (SF Racing) will try to continue to progress towards the Top 10 from 13th.
Meanwhile, in European Talent Cup, Carlos Cano (SeventyTwo Artbox Racing Team) is the poleman and could leave Alcañiz with the title in his pocket if he manages to accumulate 25 points more than Marco Morelli (MLAV Racing).
The ETC provided the excitement we are used to in qualifying. Kristian Daniel Jr. (AGR Team) and Kerman Tinez (MIR Racing Finetwork Team) will follow Cano on the front row of the grid, setting the stage for a magnificent battle for the championship.
French side, Enzo Bellon (Team Estrella Galicia 0,0) achieved the 8th time in Group A, 2 seconds from pole, Randy Truchot (Mecaprojets Team Ado) the 11th, Evan Boxberger (JEG Take OFF GP) on the 14th.
In group B, Mattias Rostagni (Mecasport) came out on top, 9th, 2,3s from pole, just ahead David DaCosta (BRS-Brechon Racing School), while Benjamin Caillet (JEG Take OFF GP) has been disqualified.
Remy Sanjuan (Mecaprojets Team Ado), Elliot Kassigian (Team Larresport) and Henri Mignot (BRS-Brechon Racing School) are participating in the Last Chance Race this morning.
With the grid lined up for Sunday’s races, it’s time to look ahead to the action ahead on the track. The first race of the day is Moto2™ ECh Race 1, scheduled for 11:00 (UTC+2), followed by ETC Race 1 at 12:00 (UTC+2). In the afternoon, we’ll be treated to the only JuniorGP™ race of Round 6 at 13:00 (UTC+2) and the second Moto2™ ECh and ETC races of the day, at 14:00 (UTC+2) and 15:00 (UTC+2) respectively.
