KTM makes a splash by announcing on social networks the launch of an all-new limited edition track-only model based on a Moto2 chassis. The Austrian brand will present this exclusive machine on July 20.

The teaser video begins by revealing the chassis of the next KTM RC. Unsurprisingly, it's painted orange and appears to be based on the Austrian brand's Moto2 chassis, which raced in the intermediate class until late 2019, when it ceased development for KTM to focus on the Moto3 and MotoGP categories.

The images reveal that this model will be limited to just 100 examples. This limited series will be handcrafted and will only be created for track use.

Concerning the engine, the video reveals some clues: the sound of the bike is clearly a large displacement twin-cylinder – probably the 890 cc twin-cylinder engine which already exists at KTM. Indeed, in the racing version, the KTM Moto2 used a 765 cc engine of Triumph origin in 2019 and a Honda CBR600RR in-line four-cylinder in previous years, but the Mattighofen engineers should logically opt for an in-house engine.

We remind you that KTM is the only manufacturer involved in MotoGP without offering a large sports car in its range, its only fairing options being limited to the RC390 and RC125, models which will be replaced in the coming weeks. Indeed, KTM has only ever offered one remarkable sports car, the RC8, from 2008 to 2013, which has left many memories for fans of the Austrian brand.

The machine will be presented on July 20 as KTM prepares for its home round of the 2021 MotoGP World Championship at the Red Bull Ring in Austria.
