The Grand Prix Commission, composed of MM. Carmelo Ezpeleta (CEO of Dorna), Ignacio Verneda (CEO of the FIM), Hervé Poncharal (IRTA) and Takanao Tsubouchi (MSMA), in the presence of MM. Vito Ipollito (FIM President), Javier Alonso (Dorna) and Mike Trimby (IRTA, meeting secretary), took the following decisions during a meeting held on March 19, 2016 in Losail (Qatar):

Technical regulations

Quickshifters in the Moto2™ category – Effective from May 1, 2016

In order to avoid missed gear changes, it will be mandatory to use a quickshifter from one of the two approved brands. (Only one brand was previously authorized). It will also be mandatory to use a load cell, the data of which will be provided to technical inspection.

Aerodynamic parts for the Moto3™ and Moto2™ categories

The use of aerodynamic fins is prohibited for these two categories. In Moto2™, the ban is effective immediately. In Moto3™, where wings are currently used, the ban will come into effect in 2017.

The Technical Director will continue to authorize fairings intended to evacuate water projected by the front wheel, provided that they do not have an aerodynamic role.
