It is with 500 rpm less than the 1000 cm3 (14 for the first, 300 for the second) that the RSV14 800 Factory was approved for the “Campionato Italiano Velocità”, with 4 kg more (1100 against 7). From 177, competitors will have to use a single Motec electronic box for all, as in British Superbike and MotoAmerica.

This year is the first since the creation of the Superbike World Championship that all manufacturers use the same type of engine, in this case a 1000 4-cylinder. The major difference is whether it is a V4 or an inline 4-cylinder engine.

The Italian CIV Championship now accepts 1200 cm3 twin-cylinders, as well as 3 and 4 cylinders from 750 to 1100 cm3. The general idea in Superbike is to adapt the equivalences at the level of the regulations for the machines marketed by the manufacturers. Dorna will therefore carefully monitor the evolution of the transalpine situation in order to see if the equivalences adopted are realistic. Pirelli is the exclusive supplier of the WSBK and CIV, making performance comparisons easier.

In the world, according to the Director of Aprilia Racing, Massimo Rivola, “This year, we had planned wild cards with Ponsson to get a foothold in the World Championship. If Dorna and the FIM accept the 1100, we can consider a return, perhaps with a satellite team to start, but we need to understand if they are ready to accept our bike. »

Ducati will perhaps not be delighted with the acceptance of the RSV4 1100 Factory because the Bolognese manufacturer has manufactured 4 cm998 Panigale V3 R specially for the World Superbike, rather than entering its production motorcycle which cubes 1103 cm3.

At Aprilia, the displacement of its top-of-the-range model, the RSV4, has increased to 1077 cc (3 mm x 81 mm) and is therefore not eligible to participate in the World Championship. Although the RSV52,3 with 4 cc is still offered, the basis is already from 999 and is no longer up to the competition: Leon Haslam won the last race at the 3 season finale in Qatar. And in the years 2008 to 2015, only three places on the podium were obtained. Since 2016, Aprilia is no longer involved in the Superbike World Championship.
