Marco Melandri says: aviation as a mantra to charge the batteries, cross-country skiing, and an eye on Arágon and the 'PATAtina' of the grid…..

I'm back ! How are you ? I left you saying that we would have felt better, so I will never say it again, seeing how it went in Thailand (twice sixth, editor's note). I had a great two weeks, even if I was very disappointed with the race. To calm my anger, I played sports, then I returned to Trentino (where I have lived with my family for a year now), I turned to cross-country skiing. I started practicing it a few years ago and I find it to be a truly fantastic workout, complete in every way and damn difficult, but the panorama, once finished, repays you well beyond the effort produced. I had the chance to see Francesco De Fabiani and Federico Pellegrino live at the Italian Championships in Madonna di Campiglio. I had confirmation that no miracle would make me a good cross-country skier…

AVIATION IS MY PSYCHOLOGIST

Mentally, however, the passion that helps me disconnect the most is aviation. At first I hated flying, then, almost by chance, I tried it in 2008 with a friend. Ready to go after barely a minute, I found myself upside down for a loop! It was love at first sight, then love, and now a healthy illness... I like to fly alone, aimlessly, following my instinct, and from there, see things from another angle. From above, everything seems so orderly, precise, very different from what we see with our feet on the ground.

All of this helps me find a positive point of view, even after a twisted weekend, where you feel like you didn't get the result your potential could have afforded. Piloting a plane is like having a sports psychologist, in fact (in the photo: Marco landing on the Pomposa runway, editor's note).

DO YOU WANT TO COME ON THE TRACK WITH ME?

Another thing I love about flying is going to train with my R3 (those who want to rent one and train with me can get info here [email protected] ), get tired and fly home to recharge my batteries at double speed, see how beautiful Italy is and the sea and mountains are close. So different but so incredibly fascinating, both.

AN EYE ON MANU, GRID GIRL
Now we have two races in a row. Arágon is one of the most beautiful circuits in the world, then Assen will arrive, where Yamaha did very well last year. For us, this will be the real test to understand the value of all the bikes on track. To meet the strong demand from fans of female-engine pairs, Arágon will be Manu's first race (Manuela Raffaeta), like “PATAtina” of the grid. I'll just tell you that it's been a month since the clothing tests were done at home. Guys, follow me this weekend on Sky and Tv8, I only promise you that I will fight until the last meter to achieve a result!
