MSVR, the organizer of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship, today (Wednesday) announced an updated 2020 calendar following approval from its governing body, the MCRCB. The new calendar will feature six three-round events, totaling 18 races which will all be broadcast live on Eurosport UK with free highlights on Quest and ITV4.

Following extensive consultations with teams, broadcasters, partners and circuits, the revised provisional calendar will begin in early August with the opening rounds taking place at Donington Park (National) on 7/8/9 August before moving to Snetterton later this month. (August 21/22/23) for the second event.

The fight for the title will then continue at the Silverstone National Circuit on September 4/5/6, with Oulton Park hosting the fourth event of the season on September 18/19/20.

The penultimate event will take place at Donington Park (Grand Prix) on its original date of October 2/3/4 with the traditional season finale to decide the champion two weeks later at the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit, maintaining the weekend of October 16/17/18.

Given the reduction in the number of championship races from 27 to 18, the usual 'Showdown' format will not be applied to the 2020 Bennetts British Superbike Championship. An official test will take place before the opening round at Donington, and all details will be confirmed soon.

The other championship categories, Quattro Group British Supersport/GP2, British Talent Cup, Pirelli National Superstock, HEL Performance Junior Supersport, Ducati TriOptions Cup and Molson Group British Sidecars will also feature in the revised events calendar.

Bennetts British Superbike Championship Director, Stuart Higgs, said: “It has been an incredibly difficult time, but the enthusiasm, commitment and passion of everyone involved in the championship has been exceptional. Being able to announce a provisional schedule is a big step forward. Naturally, we are very disappointed that several of the traditional tours had to be canceled, which is the result of very detailed evaluations for all tours following the COVID 19 pandemic. The strong message however is that we look forward to the return of a full range of circuits in 2021.”

“We are optimistic that we will be able to welcome fans to BSB this season, taking advantage of these large outdoor circuits with plenty of space to socially distance. We are working with circuits to agree protocols that meet all relevant guidelines and will continue to do so as guidelines evolve over the coming weeks, with further announcements on this subject to follow. »

“For now however, the focus is on preparing the various protocols and operational details to ensure the safety of all members of the BSB community. »
