The World's Fastest Motorcycle Racing Championship will soon return to Brazil, at the brand new Rio Motorpark.

Dorna Sports is pleased to announce that MotoGP™️ will return to Brazil from 2022, with a five-year contract with Rio Motorsports (RMS) ensuring the sport's return to Rio de Janeiro until 2026. The all-new Rio Motorpark, planned to be built in Deodoro, will host the Grand Prix, which will return to Rio after 15 years.

Brazil and Rio de Janeiro have already written incredible chapters in sporting history, most recently in 2004 at Jacarepaguá, which hosted MotoGP™ from 1995. The development of a new venue to replace Jacarepaguá, which has been transformed into the Olympic Park, offers an exciting prospect for sport and the city.

Rio Motorpark is expected to be completed in 2021 and will feature a 4,5km layout comprising seven left and six right turns, with a lap time of approximately 1 minute 38 seconds.

Marcelo Crivella, Mayor of Rio de Janeiro: “The news that we already have a first competition for the new Rio circuit, the MotoGP, confirmed for 2022, represents a big step forward for our city. The construction of the Deodoro circuit is a spectacular project, with an extraordinary investment which will generate 7000 jobs and allow Rio to regain its leading position among major competitions. We are going to develop a district of the city with many needs, the West zone, and stimulate tourism. All this without the city investing a penny in the project, since the entire investment will be the responsibility of the concessionaire. »

JR Pereira, CEO of Rio Motorsports: “Dorna has been an extremely loyal partner in every conversation we have had. Now that we have completed the local environmental impact studies and the commission that will examine the matter is in place, in accordance with the regulatory policies of INEA (Environmental Agency of the State of Rio de Janeiro) , it was possible to formalize an agreement which was worked on for more than two years. We are very grateful to Carmelo and his team for being able to realize the dream of bringing MotoGP back to Rio. »

Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports: “I am very proud to announce that MotoGP will return to Rio de Janeiro, one of the most iconic cities in the world, in such an incredible country. Brazil is an important market for motorcycles, motorcycle racing and motorsport, with a history that I can be proud of, and a future in which I am excited to see MotoGP play such a vital role, with our return in 2022.”

The plan presented received the participation of renowned companies in the sporting world. The engineering and architecture project was managed by Tilke Engineers & Architects, of Germany's Hermann Tilke, responsible for the Sepang circuit in Malaysia, the Circuit of the Americas in the United States, Shanghai in China, and Sochi in Russia. The layout and safety design was designed in coordination with MotoGP and Formula 1.
