Very concerned about the disadvantaged children of Owensboro, Nicky Hayden and his family had already made donations to the Daniel Pitino shelter which welcomes a good number of them as well as single-parent families.

This time, it goes further since Earl Hayden bought and took charge of clearing several small unsanitary lots located opposite the refuge last year, before offering them to this non-profit association.

As a result, this enabled the latter to obtain a grant of $600 and a loan for the construction of 000 social housing units which will bear the name of the late American MotoGP world champion.

“As soon as the temperature warms up in the spring, we will begin the work,” said Pitino Shelter Director Thad Gunderson. “We hope to have them built and be able to offer the housing in the fall of 2019. The banks saw this donation as we were devoting time and money” to the project. Without the Haydens taking the initiative to offer us this property for free, we would not have received the grants.”

Pitino Shelter board member Tom Lilly says: “The children at the Pitino shelter held a special place in Nicky’s heart. You saw him being happy when he handed over bicycles to our residents. He spent a lot of time with our children and there is no doubt that these new facilities will bear his name.”
