He was born on June 16, 1942 and in 1963 he began to write the legend of motorcycle racing. Symbol of a bygone era, icon still alive and downright guardian of the temple of the motorcycle, this one is a Giacomo Agostini always good foot and good eye. So he had no trouble celebrating his 74th birthday.
We know him under the nickname Ago and he is at the head of 122 Grand Prix victories. A statistic that he sees in each race threatened a little more by the compatriot Valentino Rossi who is at 114 before going to Assen next week.
Agostini wrote the charts of MV Agusta and began to open those of Yamaha for whom he won his last world title in 1975. The Italian put away his leathers in 1977 and sits not only on 15 world titles but also on 10 victories in the dreaded and dreaded TT event on the Isle of Man. A very different time.
And the man speaks French very well, as we saw when we interviewed him two months ago…
