Alex Marquez, Gresini driver, has just had his best race in a long time. Moreover, not long ago, he announced his renewal within the Italian team for 2025, which, in my opinion, is quite surprising without being illogical. It's time to look into his case.
Solid
His weekend in Germany was very convincing. Certainly overshadowed by his brother – again, he did well on Sunday to take a fine third place, his first podium since the 2023 Malaysian Grand Prix. After a very discreet start to the year, this is a good thing, because the gap between the two teammates were starting to get very serious. At Assen, he was already in the mix, but without being able to translate his speed into results. This third place celebrated alongside his brother will undoubtedly do him the greatest good.
An opportunity to seize
We've known this for a little over a week now. Alex Marquez will be Gresini driver in 2025, then this is the opportunity to look at this signature. Firstly from the point of view of the main person concerned, even if the observation is beyond doubt.
I think this represents a great opportunity for him. The Ducati GP24 will undoubtedly be very efficient, and the team is going strong. Since 2022, I think Gresini Racing is the best independent team, as good as Pramac Racing in my humble opinion. With less good bikes, they manage to regularly play for victory thanks to intelligent recruitment, optimal preparation – according to the riders – and exemplary management. Alex Marquez, objectively the worst Gresini rider since the start of the 2022 season, needs this Ducati handlebar more than the other way around. So, it’s a great move on his part.. He will be able to continue to fight for good places, although I think, of course, that he would like to compete for podiums more often.
There's something very special in the Marquez DNA! 🧬 @marcmarquez93 and @ alexmarquez73 were on cloud 9 after sharing a #MotoGP podium for the first time! 🥈 🥉#GermanGP ???????? pic.twitter.com/QhPxw02CCj

Gresini plays conservative
On the one hand, I understand why Alex Marquez is maintained. He has experience – already in his fifth season at the highest level, is capable of asserting himself as well as handling difficult situations as a double world champion. He's a good driver, that's not the question. Let's just say that it's a somewhat conservative, safe, not very daring choice. Fermin Aldeguer, winner in Germany, still remains to be included in the ranks of Ducati. He would develop well alongside him.
I think this transfer window offered the possibility of looking for unhappy people everywhere. Maverick Vinales for example, who, given his situation, would have adapted to a Ducati handlebar instead of a KTM. Miguel Oliveira was also an interesting prospect, but the Portuguese claimed he had a plethora of offers; maybe he had already refused her.
Conclusion
I can't believe that Alex Marquez will be the game changer at Gresini Racing. As since the start of 2023, he will perhaps be able to win once or twice, with, why not, a pole; but the possibilities for further development seem quite slim to me.
Gresini Racing was the best opportunity for him in the transfer market, so he wins. The team does not take many risks given its consistency; we know what he is capable of, but we also know his ceiling in MotoGP, unless he completely transforms as was the case for Fabio Di Giannantonio at the end of last season.
