IRTA and Dorna have signed to extend their partnership for another five years at the Motul TT Assen.
Founded in 1986, the IRTA (International Road-Racing Teams Association) represents teams in each of the three Grand Prix categories and works with the FIM and Dorna to protect the interests of teams and drivers in the World Championship.
This contract renewal is accompanied by increased financial support for the teams, Dorna having committed to reducing competition costs for the Moto3™ and Moto2™ categories but also for independent teams in MotoGP™.
Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna: “We started in 1992, 25 years ago, and the first thing we did was to agree with the organization that represents the teams and drivers on how we should run the Championship. This is the sixth agreement we have made, we made an announcement here in Assen five years ago and we are now announcing the renewal, which we are very proud of. IRTA is a very important part of the new system. This agreement is also a new basis for the MotoGP category and we have already announced with the IRTA that we will further support the teams from 2017 to 2021. I am very proud and extremely happy to continue working with the IRTA, very happy to announce this renewal until 2021. The normal procedure is to go from five years to five years but I am sure that we will always work with IRTA. I would like to express my thanks to Mika Trimby, who is the founder of IRTA. »
Herve Poncharal, President of IRTA: “As president of the IRTA, I represent all the teams present on the grid. It’s a pleasure to stay for five more years. Everything is fluid between the FIM, Dorna, IRTA and MSMA, it's like a dream to renew this contract. More stability for teams with financial support is everything we had hoped for. Thanks to the new regulations, we will have six manufacturers from next year in MotoGP™, which gives independent teams even more options. »
